Lala Mustafa Paşa’nın Yağlı Boya Portresi Ilk Kez Girne Üniversitesinde (1)

Oil painting portrait of Lala Mustapha Pasha, who was one of the most important figures of Ottoman history of Cyprus, was first time exhibited on campus of University of Kyrenia.

According to a statement released by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of University of Kyrenia, a first has been realized at the exhibition of “Cyprus and Naval History From Past To Present” which was organized in cooperation with the University of Kyrenia and Near East University in order to raise awareness through the visual documents on the history of Ottoman era and history of Cyprus.

At the exhibition, the unique oil painting of Lala Mustapha Pasha and several other paintings depicting the naval history of Cyprus and the conquest of Cyprus during 1570-1571 by Ottoman Empire have been brought into presence of visitors.

İşipek: A very important work of art that exhibited first time

Ali Rıza İşipek, Retired Navy Colonel, Director of Naval History Research Centre of University of Kyrenia and curator of the exhibition, said that they have realized a first and exhibited the oil painting portrait of Lala Mustapha Pasha, the commander of Ottoman navy and one of the most important figures of Ottomans who conquered Cyprus. İşipek also said that they are very happy and proud of exhibiting the portrait of Lala Mustapha Pasha which was not exhibited anywhere previously. İşipek also emphasized that they gave utmost importance to visual depictions as they were in an attempt to recreate and interpret the spirit of the naval history of Cyprus and of the Ottoman era and Ottoman influence on naval history.

The Press and Public Relations Directorate of University of Kyrenia has stated that the exhibition, of which preparations were carried out in detail for two years by Naval History Research Centre of University of Kyrenia and Kyrenia Continuing Education Centre, will also be opened in Nicosia in 2016.
