University of Kyrenia is starting the new academic year with 9 faculties, 2 graduate schools and 29 departments to provide education to its 1050 students from 36 different countries….
Aiming to be the symbol of Kyrenia through its architecture and as a centre of scientific study, University of Kyrenia is ready to start the 2015-2016 academic year in its new and modern campus. In its first academic year, the University of Kyrenia started to facilitate education and training with its 4 faculties, 2 graduate schools and 12 departments. After adding 5 faculties and 17 new departments to its body, University of Kyrenia is now getting ready to start the academic year of 2015-2016 with a total of 9 faculties, 2 graduate schools and 29 departments.
According to the press info released by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of University of Kyrenia, the University of Kyrenia is currently starting its fourth academic term subsequent to significant additions made to its infrastructure and educational opportunities.
5 New Faculties, 17 New Departments…
It was revealed in the press info that the new faculties that have been recently opened are: Faculty of Education; Law; Architecture; Economics and Administrative Sciences; and Engineering. Furthermore, it was stated that the new departments are Department of Psychological Counselling and Guidance (Turkish as the language of instruction); Turkish Language Teaching; Teaching the Mentally Disabled; Pre-School Teaching; and Department of Law to function under the body of Faculty of Law.
On the other hand, departments of which the language of instruction will be English and will be functioning under the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences are: Department of Banking and Finance; Computer Informatics; Business Management; Department of International Relations; Tourism and Hotel Management. Moreover, departments to function under the body of Faculty of Architecture are: Department of Architecture; Interior Design; Industrial Products Design; whereas the departments, whose language of instruction are English, to facilitate education under the body of Faculty of Engineering are: Department of Computer Engineering; Electrical and Electronic Engineering; Civil Engineering; and Department of Mechanical Engineering.
1050 students from 36 different countries….
Although the University of Kyrenia has only been established two years ago, currently the university is facilitating education and training to 1050 students from 36 different countries. The University of Kyrenia is taking firm steps forward, aiming to be a centre and source of attraction in a multicultural location, Kyrenia. Valuing international membership, accreditation and cooperation, the University of Kyrenia is expected to be the most significant education institution through having international recognition and its available departments.
Necessary preparations have been initiated to get membership for the: International Association of Universities (IAU); European Universities Association (EUA);and Federation of Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW) and Accreditation Agency for Degree Programs in Engineering, Informatics/Computer Science, the Natural Sciences and Mathematics (ASIIN). Furthermore, University of Kyrenia is authorised by the Turkish Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications, and TR General Directorate of Territorial Waters Order to give certificates in 42 different fields regarding maritime studies.
İlkay Salihoğlu: “We are highly excited to be starting a new academic year with our new students at our new campus!”
Acting Rector of University of Kyrenia, Prof. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu, expressed how happy they were to be ready to start a new academic year with full preparation to meet the local and international students’ needs. He particularly pointed out that this current academic year had a special meaning to them since they will be facilitating education via their new campus which includes 9 Faculties. He also emphasised that they aimed to be the symbol of Kyrenia through the quality of education provided, raising competent individuals relative to their fields of study. He also added that they also aimed to prove their existence, as a University, among the scientific platform of world universities. Prof. Dr. Salihoğlu also expressed that being a newly founded university was advantageous in many ways such that this involved a fully equipped new campus, highly competent academic staff with the potential to take the university forward. He ended his words by stating that they were sure that the students were as excited as they were to start their educational life at the University of Kyrenia which is fully equipped with innovative technologies and facilities.
