Offering education mainly on aviation and maritime, which have an important place in the transportation and shipping industry at the present day, the University of Kyrenia draws attention to the rapidly growing needs of the aviation sector.

According to the press info released by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of the University of Kyrenia, considering the data provided by two major aircraft manufacturers, the Boeing and Airbus companies, Prof. Dr. Ilkay Salihoğlu, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of University of Kyrenia, delivered information on the rapidly increasing needs of the civil aviation sector, which is one of the fastest growing industries of the world. Touching upon the importance of professionally training qualified personnel to respond the emerging needs of civil aviation sector, Professor Salihoğlu also drew attention to the significant role of major aircraft manufacturers in contributing to the sector by producing highly efficient aircrafts consistent with the implementation of the latest cutting-edge technology.

Prof.Dr. Ilkay Salihoğlu: the need for the services provided by aviation industry, which is one of the leading sectors of our era, is growing increasingly…..

Touching upon the significant growth in the number of aircraft ordered in the past decade, Professor Salihoğlu delivered some information on the statistics revealing the numbers of aircrafts ordered from Airbus and Boeing between 2003 and 2014. “Boeing and Airbus are ranked as the two leading aircraft manufacturers worldwide. In 2003, Airbus received 284 orders while Boeing received 248 orders. These numbers increased dramatically by years in the line with the demand emerging from the rapidly developing world airline traffic. In 2014, the number of aircraft ordered from Airbus climbed up to 1766 corresponding to 622% increase and the number of aircraft ordered from Boeing was 1550 corresponding to 625% increase. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the Airbus A350 are the two company’s most recent models, respectively. In the last decade, Boeing received a total of 890 orders for Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Airbus received overall 613 orders for Airbus A 350. The two major aircraft manufacturers of the aerospace industry received a total of 1503 orders for only two types of aircrafts within the last decade. The number of aircraft ordered from Airbus and Boeing from 2003 to 2014 is significant enough to put in terms the emerging needs of the civil aviation sector. From 2003 to 2014, Airbus received 11,838 overall orders and Boeing received 10,645 aircraft orders in total. Thus, in the last decades, the two leading aircraft manufacturers received a total of 22,438 aircraft order for use in transportation. During the first six months of 2015, Boeing received 202 overall orders and manufactured and delivered 152 of them. During the first four months of 2015, Airbus received 229 overall orders. This data clearly shows that the aviation sector is one of the leading industries of today and of the future and therefore, the need for services provided by aviation industry is constantly increasing worldwide.”

The importance and value of qualified personnel is very high in aviation industry…

Touching upon the significance of the growing need for qualified personnel to meet the ever growing infrastructure and technical requirements of the rapidly developing aviation industry, Prof. Dr. Salihoğlu highlighted the crucial role of quality education and training in cultivating highly qualified staff that are capable to address the emerging needs of the sector. “Civil aviation sector is one of the world’s fastest growing industries and consequently the need for qualified personnel is rapidly increasing worldwide. What’s more, the current capacity of civil aviation training institutions for training qualified personnel fails to satisfy the rapidly emerging needs of this fastest growing sector. It takes time to train qualified personnel. However, without having enough qualified manpower, aircrafts ordered from aircraft manufacturers are manufactured and delivered to customers for transportation services within a short time. Besides, having insufficient qualified manpower, the aircraft manufacturers often face with technical issues in manufacturing and delivering ordered aircrafts to the customers in time. This is a significant indicator to highlight the increasing importance and value as well the competitive value of qualified personnel trained by aviation training institutions for aviation market. The need for qualified personnel will continue to increase very rapidly within the next 15 years and will be expressed in hundreds of thousands…” noted he.
